Like lots of people, we have gone back to school this week. We have decided that we will try to be more environmentally friendly in school as well as at home. Here is what we are planning to do.
First, we will walk to school and back again. Last year we normally walked to school but got picked up afterwards. This year by walking both ways less car journeys will be needed so this will help the environment because there will be less pollution.
We both have waterproof coats and it is only just over a mile to school so even in the rain or the snow we are going to try to keep walking there and back every day. Plus it will help keep us fit.
Second, we have grown lots of our own fruit and vegetables in the garden this year and we are going to try to use these for our snacks at school instead of buying snacks from the shops that usually have lots of plastic packaging around them already. We have got lots of plums still growing which would be good as snacks and we also still have some peas and carrots which we like for snacks too. By using our own fruit and vegetables for our snacks we will be helping the environment by making less rubbish. Also it is super tasty from our own garden and we know that it has been grown in a healthy way.
Finally, when we take our snacks in we will take them in wax wraps instead of in cling film. These are easy to get hold of and they work just as well as cling film but they are better than cling film because they can be used again and again. This will help to cut down on the amount of rubbish we make too.
We already take in water bottles that we re-use and don't buy bottles of drink at school. And we try to help make sure our friends are being good for the environment too by telling them about putting litter in the bin and about recycling and reusing things. We are also hoping to have a stall at our school Christmas fair where we can sell cakes and small toys to raise money for World Wildlife fund.
We hope that if you are going back to school this week that you will also try to be environmentally friendly this year and maybe walk more or or reuse things like water bottles. If you have any other good ideas of how we can help the environment at school we would love to hear them.
Well done and I hope you have more ideas for healthy snacks when all the fruit and veg in the garden has been used up in winter. x
Really impressed with what you have achieved 😁👍🏻👏🏻🌻🌻! Have fun at school and stay awesome 😎💖💚💜🧡💗
