Holiday helping!

Now it’s the summer holidays – hooray! Here are some ideas of how you can help the environment during the summer:

· If you’re going to the coast, do a beach clean. If everyone just picked up a small bag of litter from the beach it would really help the beach look better and wildlife not get injured from it.

· Find out about wildlife trust events. The wildlife trust near us does forest school events, family days, and other interesting activities through the summer. They are usually not very expensive and they are a great way to find out about the wildlife in your area. The Wildlife Trusts | The Wildlife Trusts

· Visit RSPB nature reserves. These are also good fun to visit in the holidays and often have fun events for kids and families. Some of them have great play areas too! Nature Reserves UK | Nature Walks Near You - The RSPB

· Eat from local food markets. Food being transported a long way is really bad for the environment as it produces carbon dioxide gas. If you eat food that has been produced locally then it would be less bad for the environment. Plus its often really tasty.

· Leave the car at home. Go for walks and bike rides. They are fun ways to enjoy time outside, get to know the area, and they are much more environmentally friendly than using the car.

· Have picnics. Picnics are great fun. Make sure you use reusable bottles or containers for your food and drink. If you have been growing your own fruit and veg like us, this would be perfect to take with you for picnics.

· Do a nature scavenger hunt. We like doing these as it really makes us notice the things around us and how amazing nature really is.

· On wet days, why not turn some of the rubbish into craft projects? You can see some of our ideas here Recycling crafts | Environmental kids (wixsite.com)

We hope you all have a great summer, whatever you end up doing.
