We already have one bug hotel in our garden using bricks, but decided that it would be nice to have another one too so that there were more places for bugs to live. This is how we made it.
Cut three long pieces of wood the same length, for the floor, middle and roof, and cut two shorter pieces of wood the same length for the sides. Be careful with a saw that you have the wood firm in place so you do not get hurt and that you are wearing shoes and keep your hands away from the saw.
Using nails, attach the each side to the floor, the middle and the roof. Be careful when you are using nails that you hammer them in straight and don't hit your hand.
Measure the height and width of your bug house then use some thin wood (we used the back piece from an old book case) to cut out a piece for the back that is the right size, and nail this on.
Then you can fill up your bug house with different interesting things for the bugs to hide in. We used stones and shells, sticks (including some bits of garden canes with holes in the middle), pieces of wood and bark, pine cones, and pieces of rolled up cardboard from an old cardboard box. You could also use cork or any other materials you find around that you think bugs might like.
Then you have made your bug house. We wonder if the bugs will like this one more than our brick one?
That is AMAZING.....
