This is our final garden update of the year because it is getting towards winter and most things are starting to die. We still have some potatoes growing and we keep picking a few of these at a time when we need them. And because our tomatoes started quite late, we still seem to have quite a few. We have had a few carrots recently too, and still have loads of peas that we picked in the freezer, but unfortunately the sweetcorn all got eaten by snails.

So this weekend we picked lots of our tomatoes, here are a few of them. Once we had eaten some for lunch we realised we still had lots left, so we decided to make chutney out of them.
First we chopped up one red onion and about 6 of our big tomatoes. Then we cooked the onion in a little bit of oil and added the tomatoes in then let them cook for a while. Then we added about a tablespoon of red wine vinegar, a spoon of sugar, and some spices (we chose cumin and coriander seeds) then cooked it a bit more. We tasted it and added a bit more of the vinegar and sugar until it was how we liked it. Then we put in into a jam jar to cool down. It is really delicious and hopefully will last for a while which the tomatoes would not have done otherwise. We are going to use
it with some burgers and wraps this week and can't wait!

It looks very yummy, I’m glad the tomatoes have done well, maybe next year you can have peppers to add to your chutney x
