COP26 has started in Glasgow this week.
COP stands for Conference of the parties. It is for all the countries that signed an agreement about climate change in 1994. It is the 26th conference so it is called COP26.
It is a very important conference because the Earth is getting warmer, ice caps are melting, the sea is rising and there are more storms and droughts. This is happening because of things that humans have done and governments around the world agree that something has to be done.
COP26 is going to be a time for world leaders to say what they have been doing to help climate change over the last few years and is a chance for more agreements and changes to be made.
Some of the things that might happen are:
More money for renewable energy
Trying to get more people to buy electric cars
More national parks and protection of wildlife
Finding ways to remove carbon dioxide from the air
Making companies that pollute more pay more money
Stopping using coal
Asking people to eat less meat
We are looking forward to seeing what happens and what gets agreed on in the end. Lots of countries working together is a great way to help our environment for the future.
What do you think will have the biggest impact to reduce climate change?
