We're really enjoying watching how our fruit and vegetables are doing in the garden - here is an update on some of the plants so far.
The cucumbers are still on our windowsill inside and they are doing really well. We have had lots of flowers and there are a lot of small cucumbers plus a few that are getting really big like the ones in the picture here.
The peppers are also still inside. We have had some problems with white flies so they are not doing as well as the cucumbers and some of the leaves have gone a bit crinkled. Some of them have started to flower now though so hopefully we will get peppers soon.
The tomatoes are now in the garden outside and they seem to have all survived being planted out. The stems are not too thick yet and they have not got any flowers or tomatoes but hopefully they will do soon.
A lot of the plants that we planted as seeds outside are doing great. The peas, mange tout and lettuce are all looking really good and we have been able to pick and use quite a lot of the lettuce leaves already. It is delicious! The sweetcorn and the potatoes are also both growing well which we are excited about as we have never grown either of these before. For some reason, none of the spinach seemed to grow at all which is odd as we have grown this before and it did really well. The carrots are growing but not as well as some years when we have grown them.
At the end of our vegetable patch we have raspberry canes and blackcurrant bushes and they look like they are going to have loads of fruit this year. We also have a plum tree in our wildlife area and there are more plums on there than we have ever had before. We are really looking forward to picking lots of our fruit and vegetables and being able to make lots of tasty food from it!
